APT High School Training Center Year 6 is Complete

HICKSVILLE—Year 6 of the APT High School Training Center is now complete.

Only four students participated this year, as the pandemic continued to affect our lives.

All four students were Seniors from Hicksville High School that had previously gone through the first year program.

As in years past, the students spent two hours a day at APT, logging hours on various skilled tasks with APT employees as instructors. The students dove deeper into their chosen focus after having experienced all areas of the company last year. They worked on a couple of large projects, such as designing and building a cart lift that will be used by the electrical and assembly departments at APT for years to come. They also worked with engineering to test our Stronguard® machine guarding for reliability and safety. APT will use the data collected in sales and marketing of this product.

This year also marked the first year APT was able to train the student using their newly designed PLC/HMI trainers. The trainers are now part of the FANUC-Rockwell Automation-APT Manufacturing Solutions partnership in building industry equipment for use in the educational world. This was an exciting prospect for the students as they were using equipment before it is in wide use in colleges, universities, and career centers across the nation.

One of these graduating students has been hired full-time as summer help, with the possibility of staying on long-term with the company.

With the end of the 2020-21 year, APT’s Training Center has seen 34 first year students in this program, with 16 of those returning for a second year. Twelve students have been employed at APT in either a summer internship or full-time employment.
